Piotr Szubert Figure in the 19th and 20th Century Polish Sculpture

Piotr Szubert: Wood is the material used most frequently by Sylwester Ambroziak. The figures sculpted by the artist, poised in rapturous gestures, usually pertain to religious topics. Their form brings to mind prehistoric art. In 1993, the artist commented on his aspirations: “The shape of my sculptures is the result of many years search for the form corresponding best to my temperament. I have been looking for primeval elements within a human being going back to the primary culture religions: African sculpture or Amazon art. They all carry a deep sense, nothing happens to be haphazard here .”
